Period problems!

Well ladies I thought I'd make my comeback post interesting! I have 8 daughters & you would think I should be expert on women's problems! However.. I haven't personally suffered from painful monthlys but several of  my daughters have a terrible time. The doctors always try & prescribe the pill, which obviously is not something we would like. Have any of you any tips? Perhaps about natural remedies that could be used. Two of the girls have been up at night with severe pains... as an interim resort perhaps the Rev Frs can pray for us women & count their blessings! lol

  1. Tens Machine. Good for Mum and Dad's aches and pains too! It appears the brain can't deal with two sensations at once and the Tens pulsation overides the pain messages.

Starting combined paracetamol and non-steriodal anti-inflamatory (ibuprofen) tablets the day before.

  2. Before the birth of my first child, my periods were really incapacitating. My mom's solution was pretty simple & effective: A shot of Jim Beam. That remedy had a double effect: It relieved my symptoms (by putting me to sleep!) & it made me forever associate the horrid smell & taste with medicine...therefore ensuring that I was never attracted to becoming an alcoholic!

  3. Jackie,
Due to endometriosis I used to get horrendous cramps every month during my cycle. I used to see a naturopath and a few of the things she recommended (which I still take now) are Evening Primrose Oil - 1000 mg, a good calcium/magnesium supplement (relaxes the muscles) and warm castor oil packs placed over the lower abdomen. These things took a few months to work but they did lighten the cramps enough that a couple ibuprofen would take care of whatever was left over. Omega 3's are supposed to be helpful too.

  4. Hi again Jackie, I had, well have this issue as well. And I was waking up in the night with cramps, etc. sometimes I almost couldn't go to school. So we went to the doctor and they gave me 2 options: the pill or stronger naproxen sodium (like super strong advil i think..) Anywho, they really pushed the pill, so we took it and I cried the entire time my mom took to get it filled, so we called the doctors office back and they called in the prescription for the stronger pain pills. And those do the trick. I take one every twelve hours normally, and I can still fully function on them, they're just enough to make the pain tolerable, so you can function normally.

  12. I have always had a really rough time of it and around the age of 18 (I'm 47 now) was introduced to chiropractic care which made a world of difference. The realignment does helps one overall including in that department. My intuition is that a healthy diet also impacts symptoms/hormonal balance etc. Also there are homeopathic remedies - even off-the-shelf ones worth pursuing. As for a Patron Saint for womens issues... well may I recommend Saint Eve?
