Are You in Tune with God?

Recently our piano started getting a buzz in a few of its keys.  Time to call the piano tuner!

In the past (pre-electronic tuning), whenever the tuner came to the house, the process was—by necessity—quite an assault on the ears.

Bang, bang, bang.  On it would go for about an hour.  The house was filled with so much noise I could hardly here myself think!  But, thankfully, when the tuner was finished, the noise was always replaced by sweet music!

I’ve been accused over the years of having a house that is too quiet.  Our television is in the basement, which means our main living space upstairs has very little, if any, noise going on around us.

I know that some people would say they cannot stand the quiet.  They need background noise in order to function.  They say that silence is deafening.

But for me, the opposite is true.  It can be hard for me to have a conversation if a television is blaring in the background.  When I work, I’m a huge fan of silence.  I don’t like music distracting my thoughts when I am trying to do mental work, especially.

It’s the same with reading.  If I am going to concentrate on something, I prefer complete silence.

I’m not saying this is good or bad, it’s just the way it is for me.

However you are able to, scripture makes it clear that it is very important to listen.  If we cannot hear the message God wants us to hear, then the only person we are listening to is ourselves.

Check out the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 13:13-18, to see what Jesus tells his disciples about listening.  Try to be among those who listen and understand “with their heart,” who are converted and healed, so you can find blessings in your attempt.
