Tenor I have one question for you. . .  Do you care?  Take about 15 minutes to listen carefully to this talk by Senator Elissa Slotkin about our current state of affairs. She gives a wonderful, succinct, big picture of where we might be headed as a country. The woman knows what she's talking about. She has immense experience and knowledge when it comes to military and intelligence.  This is chilling. Are you always trying to please others?

Bible Study Media Do you put too much emphasis on what other people think of your work, or maybe your ideas? Does this lead you to doubt yourself?  I started listening to Fr. Mike Schmitz reading through "The Imitation of Christ." It is offered free online through Ascension. Anyway, in Chapter 7 of Book 1 he read: ". . . the judgments of God are different from the judgments of man; and often times that displeaseth Him which pleaseth men." If you get stuck in worrying about what other people think, this little insight is invaluable.  Sometimes we can place so much importance on what other people think, that it stifles what we do. If somebody is critical, or if enough people do not respond positively as we think they ought, it can cause us to stop doing what we may be called to do...

Another Autumn, and a Poem

Image
I'm keeping it short this week, (finally) telling how this summer's infection turned out, and sharing a poem my father wrote. A New Normal and a North Window "Autumn Yard Work" and Rejoicing Don't worry, by the way. The poem is short: only 14 words, including the title. More at A Catholic Citizen in America . (A short post. How the summer's infection changed my daily routine, and a short seasonal poem my father wrote. Also paying attention and rejoicing.)

Church Interior with the Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican Dirck van Delen [ Web Gallery of Art ] Readings   (Jerusalem Bible: Australia, Ireland, New Zealand) Readings   (English Standard Version, Catholic Edition: England & Wales, India, Scotland)  Readings   (New American Bible: Philippines, USA) Gospel  Luke 18:1-8  (English Standard Version, Anglicised) At that time: Jesus told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: ‘Two men went up into the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: “God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.” But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” I tell you, ...
