Do You Have Scars to Show?

I was watching Diane Sawyer's interview with Matthew Perry recently.  He was promoting his book, which is a reflection on his struggle with addiction.  He wrote his book with the sincere belief that he will be able to help others through his own experiences.

Perry recalls seeing the actor Martin Sheen go up to a podium and tell a story.  Sheen said, "There was a guy who died and went to St. Peter's office.  St. Peter asked him, 'Do you have any scars?'  The man answers, very proudly, 'No.'

St. Peter asks, 'Why? Was there nothing worth fighting for?'"

Whatever your scars might be, do not hide them.  They show that you were in the struggle and survived.  As Christians, we know that as long as we walk this earth, there will be struggles, but we do not face them alone.  God is always with us.  He is with YOU today.

#proposal3

In every blog, recently, I closed with information about Proposal 3 in Michigan.  Unfortunately, it passed.  This will definitely prove to be detrimental to babies, children and parents (not to mention teachers, medical professionals and others) as it instills in our state constitution language that is very dangerous.  You watch.

That being said, our advocacy needs to continue on behalf of pregnant moms, post-abortive moms, and children and families.  We are in this battle for life.  It does not end with this proposal.  It should motivate us all the more to actively do what we can to help others.  We need to love even more widely.

My first reaction upon hearing the proposal passed, was, "I am so sorry, Jesus. Too many have ignored you.  Too many have gotten off track."  We prayed thousands of rosaries, but we can be certain that God did not ignore our prayers.  No, we ignored him, and for that we should repent. I repeat, "I am so sorry, Jesus." For those in the fight for life, they will one day be able to show their scars, because they did find something worth fighting for.  Thank you for bearing with me through it all.
