Rigid Trads, Judging Catholics & The Demon of Medjugorje: A Brief Update

Image
Here are my latest posts: One post is an excellent article I reposted, that focuses on Traditional Catholic's and how there is some rigidity concerning how (we) use the term " Novus Ordo " in things we do not like. It wraps up wonderfully with reminding us trads how blessed we truly are to know our Faith and Tradition, but that we mustn't judge that others know it as well and just refuse to take part in it.  Another post is on "JUDGING" . Anyone ever hear of Matthew 7;1 "Judge not lest ye be judged" ? It is used so much nowadays to cover a multitude of sins and to keep quiet about the Faith. But then, there IS a large problem with Catholic's judging others ! So what does the Bible really mean when it talks about "judging" ?   We take a look at the meaning between judging and "admonishing", and look at other sources concerning this issue such as Saint Thomas Aquinas and Mother Angelica.  "The Demon of Medjug

Theology Simplified

Image
Sometimes, it seems theologians love to write circles around the average Christian. Sometimes words merely complicate the simplicity of the inexplicable. Othertimes, theologians can laugh at themselves. I rarely remember even the simplest joke but I have never forgotten this intellectual, theological joke told 30 years ago by a Jesuit priest in front of a University New Testament class. Jesus was walking alongside of the Sea of Galilee when he turned to Simon Peter and asked him,“Who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered Him, “Why you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus was pleased with his answer. So, Jesus turns to the modern-day theologian and asks,“Who do you say that I am?” The modern-day theologian answers,“Why you are the eschatological manifestation in the ground of our being. The kerygma, which finds its fulfillment in interpersonal relationships.” And Jesus replies,“What?” continue reading

Reader Q&A: The Catholic vs. Protestant View of the Mass

I recently received a question in my email box, and  I thought it was an interesting question and the thoughts it brought out seemed like they would be beneficial to share in this space. Now, my prior disclaimer is twofold: first, that I am a convert, and none of my (extended) family is Catholic. And two: I'm not sharing this to threaten anyone into converting. I'm just doing so because it gives me joy to share more about my faith. So. There's that to contend with- I'm new at this- and two, keep in mind as I answer this and perhaps other questions in the future that I'm doing this simply in response to a question I received.  I still wanted to address it here on the blog, and do so anonymously, just to remain, as always, on the safe side. The person asked: Tacy, As someone who was Protestant and is now Catholic, what do you think of the following article? The Gospel for Roman Catholics @ For the Church Is he representing Catholic doctrine fairly?  If he i

Pope Francis Makes Me Ashamed

Image
I didn't feel ashamed when he said that  atheists can go to heaven . I didn't feel ashamed when he said  gays are okay . But I felt ashamed when Pope Francis said  this : "We cannot become starched Christians, too polite, who speak of theology calmly over tea." Because that's me. Substitute coffee for tea, and I would happily sit and sip a tasty beverage while chatting about theology all day long. Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict didn't make me feel ashamed of myself. I could understand most of what they wrote, so I figured that made me pretty smart. I don't remember them ever saying that being smart and knowing theology just wasn't good enough. I don't remember them saying, as Pope Francis did, that we must go out and  touch the poor , touch them with our own hands: Read more by clicking here...
