Arise: A Poem

Image
Arise "The Knight to the Miscreant Over the Lady" by Peregrin Keep thy jests and keep thy lies Keep thy secret scorn. Canst thou see I thus despise All thy petty smiles and bows, Thy arrogant boasts, thy meaningless vows? Thou hast preyed upon her much too much Torn out her beating heart Fed her full of lies and such, And thou hast mangled her soul, Told her it was love so kind, Twas all her loss and all thy gain, Duped her mind, Made her blind, Crippled her with pain; Her soul dies, Those silent cries, But I shall tell her to arise. Dancin' with Geoffrey Chaucer During Eighth Period

Image
It's been quite a week. Nothing is wrong. It's just been a week filled with work and more work, then parenting and housekeeping and hardly anytime to sleep or to think. And so by the time today rolled in, I was bone tired. My high school juniors, who take a yearlong course in British Literature, have moved on from the Anglo-Saxon Era into the Middle Ages. We're reading Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. So, given the week and the subject matter, don't you think it makes sense during the last class on the last day of a long week to dance? Assumption

Image
Assumption Mary, women so strong, vessel of Gods loving word Whose spirit rejoiced as Gabriel’s message was heard Your life reflected hope, it was filled with trustfulness Led by the voice of your Son you embraced holiness Blest with a joyful heart yet you accepted sorrow too At the foot of the cross, strong faith remained with you You held the lifeless Word of God in a loving embrace As tears of sadness streamed down your mourning face Faithful you remained, strengthening those around you Surrendered to God’s will, you did all he asked you to do As your days on earth came to a close, God blessed you No sting of death would touch you, at life’s evening dew Frail woman, falling asleep, so gently her breaths cease She knew no corruption of ravaging decay, only peace She entered heaven’s home, redeemed flesh and blood Our goal on earth is to follow her by living as we should Mother of God, our hope, our refuge, our guiding star Help us to reach heaven too, so we can be where you are...

Priestly Grace

Image
Priestly Grace Loved, created, called, sent upon a mission Ordained to follow, in obedient submission Sustained, nurtured, cared for passionately Guided by an unseen hand, close beside me Held in the tenderness of a gentle embrace Silently touched by God’s consuming grace Captivated by this unseen force of the divine Lost in emotional worship, praise so sublime Praying consecrating words, in hushed tones Trembling with respect, through to my bones Grateful for the abiding, grace filled presence Anointing me with a true sense of reverence Patrick Brennan © 2010 I enjoy writing about the experience of being a priest. I wrote this last year and felt I wanted to repost it here as the last few posts have been about priests! Please keep praying for priests it helps!
