Thoughts For The Ascension of Our Lord

Those poor Apostles. Even now after spending the last forty days with Jesus since His Resurrection, they still don't quite "get it". Our Lord still hears their doubts; they question Him about what He will do, will He go now to restore Israel?
Jesus' Passion, Death and Resurrection did and does restore, perhaps not nations, but hearts and souls. The Apostles would need the Holy Spirit to understand what Jesus' mission was about, and in a few short days they would receive His Holy Spirit to continue His mission of spreading the Gospel.
We too need the Holy Spirit, given to us at our Baptism and Confirmation, to spread the Good News of Jesus in our own parts of the world.
As we celebrate Our Lord's Ascension in glory to His place at the father's right hand, let us not gaze toward the sky seeking heaven, but to Jesus present in the Holy Eucharist, for He is the promise of heaven.

Holy Spirit,
Enliven in us Your gifts so that we may come to know God and understand, with Holy Fear, His plan for our salvation. Help us to persevere in prayer so as to serve God and our neighbor according to His Holy Will.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

  1. What a glorious picture!

"...let us not gaze toward the sky seeking heaven, but to Jesus present in the Holy Eucharist..."

and present in each other and the poor and the suffering.

"Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40

  2. Beautiful post and prayer, Karin! I loved your remark about the Eucharist - we are so blessed to be able to simply enter the nearest Catholic Church every day if we'd like and receive Holy Communion or go to Adoration. You are so right, no need to look up into the sky when what we are searching for is right in front of us!

  6. Really beautiful Karinann!

If I am caught looking up to the sky, it is only to treasure the moment and share it with others. But yes, we must move on to the promise of heaven.

    Thank you

  7. Karinann, Beautiful post and reflection. Ascension mystery of the rosary always seemed to have theme of raising our hearts, minds to heaven a reality that will be more real and eternal vs. anything we are experiencing here! I do love connection to the Eucharist and love the meditations of Ascension & Transfiguration to remember that ALL power and glory has been given to Our Lord, the Lamb of God. He did not leave us orphans. Our site and feelings are greatly challenged here, but meditations like this one help us to be embraced by the Holy Spirit he gave to us. Thank you!

  8. Thanks DG and Colleen and blessings to you both.
DG- treasuring the moment and then sharing it made me think of the words spoken by God the Father to Catherine of Siena: "Go forth from this place of contemplation and bear fruit that will last."

Colleen- I agree these mysteries do help to raise our hearts and mind to God. These mysteries also bring comfort during those times when our faith is challenged.
