Not your Average Catholic
For my first post here at the Association of Catholic Women Bloggers, I thought it best to give you a flavor for why I write. Why I write Catholic, converted, unequally yoked, mother, Latina, Dominican Spirituality with a smattering of funny. I try to apply what I learn at mass to what I see in the secular.
I started on Pinterest - which isn't very common. As a convert to the faith married to an atheist, I wanted a place that I could gather all I could about this wonderful, rich tapestry of faith while at the same time respecting my first vocation as a wife. In the dark, I could collect images attached to websites that spoke of scapulars, saints, the Virgin Mary, Third Orders, the Mass and the Sacraments. This would be my first schooling into the faith as it happened in real life - after RCIA.
The images turned into writing on a summer day last year and I write most every day. Some of my favorite posts are funny, revealing, controversial and deeply personal. The point of all of it is, evangelization. I want anyone and everyone to know Him - even a little bit, but hopefully a lot.
If there is anything I can do to help a fellow Catholic blogger with anything, I am always around and can be found most anywhere.
Up next on my calendar for April is the AtoZ blogging challenge. It's mostly secular, but I thought, what a great opportunity to evangelize my way through the alphabet! If you feel so inclined, join me. I am sure there is more than enough Catholic to go around. Don't be intimidated, I'm number 515 of 798!
Thank you, Melanie, for letting me be a part of this wonderful apostolate. I look forward to learning and sharing what I can. Most importantly, I look forward to meeting more Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

It is wonderful to have a technological knowledgeable person here on ACWB!!! Cristina has already helped me out!
ReplyDeleteAnd it was my pleasure Melanie! I had fun helping out! You can always call on me.
DeleteGood for you girl! You know I'm one of your biggest cheerleaders!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenny! You really are one of my biggest cheerleaders. I hope Leo is on the mend. He and you have been in my prayers. <3
DeleteNice to meet you, Cristina - I have visited your blog a number of times and think it's wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I look forward to catching up on all of the wonderful writing here.
DeleteCristina, what a great introduction! I've visited your blog before and really enjoy it, and I especially liked the links you put for us here. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a warm welcome. My friend and I devour your site often and plan on reading your book together. "It's on the list". God bless you.
DeleteGreat to meet you. Hello and welcome.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hi Victor! Thank you for the welcome wishes. I look forward to reading more of your writing. In between morning prayer and making the kids waffles I skipped over. I have so much to read! God's blessings to you, Brother.
DeleteWelcome to this blog, Cristina. I know I will enjoy reading your posts. I noted that you are a Third Order Lay Dominican. The Dominicans are near to my heart as I was taught by Dominican Sisters throughout elementary and secondary schools. One of the Sisters is my very best friend. Also my first spiritual directors were Dominican priests. I am a third Order Lay Carmelite, but I always say I am Dominicanized, Franciscanized (in grad school), and now Carmelized! It's sort of like being spiritually multicultural. God bless you on your spiritual journey.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ruth Ann! How funny, I began discerning with the Secular Carmelites, but ended up (much better fit for me personally) with the Dominicans! And I am born on the Memorial of St. John of the Cross. When anyone asks me what "sign" I am, I say Dominican with Carmelite Rising!
DeleteGod bless you!
Nice to meet you Christina. Have you read St. Catherine of Siena, since you're into Dominican spirituality? I read her biography last year and i've become obssessed with reading every thing about her.
ReplyDeleteHi Manny, nice to meet you as well! I am a big starter of books. I began to read The Dialogue and put it down when I began my Dominican journey as it's one of the books I will have to read an study. She is a great Dominican saint. I have also downloaded Let Nothing Disturb You from Ave Maria Press - gotta work that in this year too! So many books..so little time!
DeleteI never have the time for all the books I want to read. I've picked up The Dialogue too, but it's hard. I would start with a biography. I read the one by Sigrid Undset and that's what start my infactuation with Catherine.
DeleteThrilled to meet you, Cristina--and I love your energy already. I look forward to learning much from you. God bless.
ReplyDeleteThank you Eileen! I'm pretty thrilled to meet you too! Your comment alone was like a shot of espresso!
