OLYMPIC GAMES AND GOLD MEDALS: OVERVALUED WAY TO HUMAN EXCELENCE?

 

During the Olympic competition this summer, champions and the emblematic figures of the sport emerge. They are the new gods of human physical perfection and outstanding ability.

This sport feast bring us memories of past idols, specially the stunning case of the Jamaican sprinter Bolt, protruding on the Olympic horizon.

 But success has its price, and already for some time, incredible physical ability was the only área of his personal life that he was interested in, for in his personal life, training and preparation were not his main objective.

 

Leading a life somewhat chaotic and disorderly, as regards to physical, mental and personal care, this Medal idol of the Athletics has not left that the excellence of its Athletic performance filter to your life, and me wonder why.

 Did it have something to do with the fame that  he already won and that has made him feel invincible?

Or was it that he only see his physical part as the whole of his being?

Or was it he limited himself to see its purely physical part, leaving aside its inner facet?

 

Making comparisons in these different type of developments and excellence we can find: the search for only the outside effort  on the one hand, and the one which makes  seek inner perfection.

 

The first search develops the physical and the performance of the body and its abilities, but may not lead to the development of the will, intelligence and soul., as seen in the case of Bolt.

 

The second search develops, in the inside, the soul, will and intelligence, and overflows towards external development of exceptional physical and mental resistance, as it can be seen in the Saints, that they manage to reach the incorruptibility of the physical body.

 

 

ALL THESE FACTS SUGGEST THAT PHYSICAL PERFECTION IS NOT ENOUGH TO BE AN EXTRAORDINARY HUMAN BEING, EVEN SOMETIMES IT IS AN OBSTACLE IN THE SEARCH OF HUMAN EXCELLENCE.... AND THAT THE INSISTENCE OF GOD TO DEVELOP US FROM THE INSIDE SO THEIT POURS OUT TO THE  OUTSIDE HAS ITS LOGIC, IN HIS EAGERNESS THAT WE REACH THE EXCELLENCE AND PERFECTION THAT HE CONCEIVED FOR MAN.
